Today's Questions for the President

Speaking before AIPAC yesterday, you said, “No country can be expected to negotiate with a terrorist organization sworn to its destruction.” In fact, during your major address last Thursday on Middle East policy, as well as in your AIPAC speech Sunday, you urged Israel not only to engage in such negotiations (by negotiating with the unity government of Fatah and Hamas — the latter a terrorist organization committed to Israel’s destruction) but to work toward creating a sovereign state for the terrorist organization by redrawing Israel’s borders to lines that are practically indefensible.

Why do you urge Israel to give land to a terrorist organization that doesn’t even recognize Israel’s right to exist? What evidence in recent history do you have that Hamas won’t continue to work toward Israel’s destruction? What evidence do you have that Iran will abide by any agreement between Israel and Hamas? Why won’t the concessions you urge encourage future acts of terrorism? What lessons do you believe our enemies have drawn from your position?

Bonus question: How would you respond to Benjamin Netanyahu if he urged you — in the interest of peace – to cede U.S. land to al-Qaeda, especially if it resulted in the terrorist organization having functional control over part of Washington, D.C.?
