She is the first media type I have seen today be skeptical of Harry Reid’s insistence that John Boehner wants to shut the government down this weekend over abortion. Team Boehner insists it is about spending ? which, of course, the defunding Planned Parenthood issue is. But given that Boehner has never promised to defund Planned Parenthood come hell or high water, there is reason to believe that's not the sticking point. It's more likely to be the D.C. Dornan amendment, which would continue a bipartisan and mainstream mainstay of the last three decades, prohibiting the federal funding of abortions in D.C. for the remainder of the year. Which, of course, is also a spending issue. If it is Dornan that's the sticking point, then the Republicans aren't the ones in these negotiations trying to make radical policy before midnight.
